When are taxes due?

For American wage earners the deadline to file your income tax return and make associated payments is typically April 15th. Occasionally Patriots’ Day, a civic holiday in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the state of Maine, falls on April 15th and therefore the tax deadline is extended by a day. This extension is generally only for residents of Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, and the District of Columbia. Residents of these states file their returns with the IRS processing center located in Andover, Massachusetts.

If you are a self employed individual then you will have to make quarterly tax payments four times per year. These taxes are typically due on April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15. However if the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the payment will be on time if you make it the next business day.
