Self Employment Tax

Self employment tax is the Social Security tax and Medicare tax paid by those who do not receive wages from an employee but work for themselves. The self-employment tax rate is 15.3 percent of self-employment profit. The self-employment tax is calculated on a Schedule SE Form which is added to Form 1040 on a taxpayers income tax returns.
